Single-page applications (SPAs) have become popular due to their excellent user experience and efficient data uploads. Vue Router is a powerful library that integrates with Vue.js and allows you to easily create SPA. In this section we will cover the basics of Vue Router, configuring routing, navigation, and advanced routing techniques.

Understanding Vue Router

What is a Vue Router?

Vue Router is a routing library for Vue.js. Vue.js allows you to create and manage routes in your application, turning it into a single-page application. Vue Router supports client-side navigation, allowing you to load different objects without having to reload the entire page.

The key features of Vue Router are:

Routes: Routing matches URLs to objects and allows you to view different objects based on the URL.

Router View: The<router-view> component serves as the location where associated content is rendered.

Router Link: The<router-link> component allows routing between different nodes by creating a link that changes direction when clicked.

Setting Up Routes

Let’s start by setting up routes in your Vue.js application:

  1. Installation:
  2. First, install Vue Router in your Vue.js project using npm or yarn.
npm install vue-router

or

yarn add vue-router

Router Configuration:

Create a router configuration where routes and their contents are defined. Here’s a simple example:

// routes.js
import Vue from 'vue'
import VueRouter from 'vue-router'
import Home from './components/Home.vue'
import About from './components/About.vue'

Vue.use(VueRouter)

const routes = [
{ path: '/', component: Home },
{ path: '/about', component: About }
]

const router = new VueRouter({
routes
})

export default router

Integration:

Integrate router into your main Vue instance:

// main.js
import Vue from 'vue'
import App from './App.vue'
import router from './routes.js'

new Vue({
render: h => h(App),
router
}).$mount('#app')

Navigation and Route Parameters

Vue Router allows the following various navigation parameters enable the process, including:

Router Link: Use the<router-link> component to create navigation links.

Programmatic Navigation: You can navigate between routes programmatically using this.$router.push(), this.$router.replace(), and this.$router.go().

Route Parameters: Pass the parameters in the redirect and enter the item.

Advanced Routing Techniques

Vue Router provides advanced routing techniques such as nested routing, route protection and lazy loading. This technology allows you to create advanced SPAs with dynamic content and enhanced security.

In our next tutorial, we will cover the deployment process and best practices for creating a SPA with Vue Router.
